Fall in Upstate NY
Now for something completely different
You’ve probably heard this a million times before, but fall is my favorite season. A few years ago while I was trying to get into shape I started going on walks. I was getting bored of seeing the same things in the neighborhood and someone took me to a park for a hike in the woods. I absolutely loved it. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before, but soon I was going multiple times a week. All throughout that summer I would go during the week and on weekends, but then the fall came.
I really enjoyed the views of the summer, but nothing compared to the beauty of fall. I would soon seek out new hiking spots, traveling around to nearby State Parks and trails. I realized that there was so many great places to visit all around Upstate NY and the areas that were only about a one or two hour drive from me. What the hell was I doing in my early 20s? Why the heck didn’t I do this sooner?
Hiking always clears my mind and I’m at peace. I forget my struggles and stress in those moments. A few times it helped me think through a situation or a problem I was worrying about.
Taking hikes alone is sometimes fun, but having someone to share these adventures is the best. I’m so blessed to have someone that loves sharing in these moments. On our trips to other counties we always take “the small roads” no highways. I always look for small towns to visit and explore. Try to find local restaurants and shops we would enjoy to see.
Fall is wonderful for the hikes, but I can’t forget the beautiful drives to local farm markets. Getting apples, cider and doughnuts. Seeing all the pumpkins and going on a haunted tour! The trips are full of surprises and I can’t imagine spending them with anyone else, but my beautiful girlfriend.
